Bid in an auction
Your bid becomes the price. Whole dollars, and the clock extends if you bid late.
UpChansa auctions work the way an auction in a room works: the amount you bid is the new price, and you are in the lead until somebody bids higher. There is no hidden maximum and nothing bids on your behalf.
- 1Enter your bid. It must beat the current price by at least the minimum increment shown, and it must be a whole dollar amount — no cents.
- 2Or use a quick-bid button to add a round amount to the current price. They scale with the item, so you are not nudging a $4,000 car by a dollar.
- 3Buy now, when the seller offers it, ends the auction on the spot and the item is yours at that price.
A bid is a commitment to buy, not a bookmark. If you only want to keep an eye on something, use the heart to favourite it instead.
The page updates live, so the price and the countdown move without reloading. If someone outbids you, you are told immediately and can decide whether to go again.
Bidding in the last minutes extends the clock automatically, so there is no advantage in waiting for the final second — and no way for someone to steal the item from you with a last-instant bid. Some auctions also carry a reserve: if the bidding ends below it the seller is not obliged to sell, and the page tells you while you bid.
Win, and you and the seller are put in touch to arrange the handover. You pay them directly, exactly as with a regular listing — meet in a busy public place and check the item before any money changes hands.
